Where Does Our Help Come From?
Psalm 46:1 says this, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” We must learn how to let Him take on your burdens.
A Song [of ascents]
1
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
3
He will not let your foot slip—
He who watches over you will not slumber.
4 Indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
He who watches over you will not slumber.
4 Indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord
watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
6 The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
6 The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
7
The
Lord will keep you from all harm—
He will watch over your life.
8 The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
He will watch over your life.
8 The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
Our Creator is also our Keeper
This psalm teaches us to comfort ourselves in the Lord, when difficulties and dangers may be at their greatest. It is wisdom that understands, and His mighty power that works the safety of those that put themselves under God's protection. We must not rely upon others and their means -- "Shall we depend upon the strength of the hills? Upon princes or great men? No, my confidence is in God alone."
We must lift up our eyes -- we must look to God who makes all things to us what they are meant to be. We must see all our help coming from the Lord, and from Him alone we must expect it. Under "the shade of His wings" we find delight and assurance.
"He will cover you with His feathers, you will take refuge under His wings. His faithfulness will be a protective shield." - Psalm 91:4
He is always near His people for their protection and encouragement. It is a protection for life. The Holy Spirit, who is our Preserver and Comforter, shall abide with us forever. We can find that while we go about in our daily work, that we have an assurance the blessings and promises in this psalm are ours. Our creator is also our keeper. Day and night He watches over us and upholds us. He never sleeps. He continues to hold on--even if we let go of Him.
Amen
