Psalm 63

Rooted and Grounded in Love 


 A psalm of David [When he was  alone in the Wilderness of Judah]
1     O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you, my soul thirsts for you
my body longs for you in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
2     I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.
3     Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.
4     I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.

5     My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods, with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
6     On my bed I remember you, I think of you through the watches of the night.
7     Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.
8     My soul clings to you-your right hand upholds me.

9     They who seek my life will be destroyed; they will go down to the depths of the earth.
10     They will be given over to the sword and become food for wild animals.
11     But the king will rejoice in God - all who swear by God’s name will praise him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced. 



There comes a time when you experience God for yourself—when you will come to know Himin a way that is nothing less than God Himself.  Only knowing Him in this way, can we be fully satisfyied in our inner being.  David knew God in this way.  He says here to God:
 
I have seen you in the sanctuary; I have beheld your power and your glory.  Now I am in a dry and thirsty land—but my soul longs for you more than it does water.  Even when I lie in my bed at night my meditations are of You… there is no other source of true satisfaction.  My soul does not find rest any other way…   

What a powerful thing love is.  We cannot hold a candle to the love God has for us.  The key to this love is in Christ.  We can be filled to the measure with the image of God—with personal revelation that comes from His heart to ours. God, because of His great love for all, we are joined together as heirs along with his people Israel—to receive every spiritual blessing as members of one body, sharing together in the promises of Christ Jesus.
There is no better place to understand the reason for this love than to go to Paul’s teaching in Ephesians.  Ephesians 3:1-13, and 14-21:   
For this reason I, Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of all gentiles— [non-Jewish people]  3…the mystery made known to me by revelation… 4 insight into the mystery of Christ, 5 which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit…  6 through the gospel, the Gentiles along with Israel are heirs together, members together of one body, and sharer together in the promise in Christ Jesus.  7 … by the gift of God’s grace given through the working of his power... 8 to preach to the Gentiles the boundless riches of Christ, 9 and to make plain to everyone the mystery…10 His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, 11 according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.12 In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.


Paul prayed the following prayer for the Gentiles because of the direct revelation he received.  Christ is our intercessor who prays for us out of His great love. He is in heaven praying for all those who believe in His promises... everyday!
14 For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,
17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.   20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.
 
Because of His great love for us, He prays for our strength that we might not be overcome by the presence of evil.  Christ paid the penalty for sin, but we must be strengthened in spirit not to be taken in by the devils schemes. There is nothing that God the Father will not do for His beloved Son. The Bible says, "The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand." (John 3:35).   We can receive this same promise through Christ Jesus… to all who believe and trust in his Name.
