Psalm 45

The Glory of Christ and His Church

Every soul belongs to God and exists by His good pleasure. How we respond to Him determines who we are in him.  God being who He is and we being what we are, there can be only one thinkable relationship between the two—one of full Lordship on His part and complete submission on ours.  We owe Him every honor that is in us to give back to Him.  The grief we may feel lies in giving Him anything less.

The Prophesy
Psalm 45 is a glorious indication of the virtues of Christ the King--His glory's and triumphs over his enemies. It is majestic in its grace, solemn yet exhilarating in its promises, as it reaches for us the hope of those who are “war torn” suffering people.  How fitting this psalm is after the previous psalm that describes the suffering of the people of God in the hands of their own and God’s enemies.

The earthly kings in biblical history, such as those who were righteous, could never compare to the lofty heights described here. They were easily moved by jealousy, tempted by bribes, afraid of its enemies, and wooed by the gods of this world. Never can this happen with the King of Kings, the promised One, the Messiah who is yet to come again.

We the Church, are His Bride
In the New Testament there are many passages describing the church as his Bride. In Old Testament History Jerusalem was the Bride of God.  But God will unveil His glory before every servant’s eyes, and will place all His treasures at the disposal of every willing heart—for He knows that His honor is safe in those who have consecrated their lives to him.

 The Truth Will Make You Free  John 8:31-36
31    So Jesus was saying to those who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine;
32   and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free…”
34   “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin.
                35   The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever.
           36    “So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

Psalm 45 - A Song of Love
1     My heart is overflowing with a good theme--
      I recite my composition concerning the King. My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.
2     You are fairer than the sons of men--
      Grace is poured upon Your lips, therefore God has blessed You forever.
3    Gird Your sword upon Your thigh, O Mighty One, with Your glory and Your majesty.

4    And in Your majesty ride prosperously because of truth, humility, and righteousness,
     And Your right hand shall teach You awesome things.
5     Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the King’s enemies; the peoples fall under You.
6     Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.
7       You love righteousness and hate wickedness-- therefore God, Your God,
       has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions.
8     All Your garments are scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia--
     Out of the ivory palaces, by which they have made You glad.

9     Kings’ daughters are among Your honorable women, at Your right hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir.
10     Listen, O daughter, consider and incline your ear.  Forget your own people also, and your father’s house;
11     So the King will greatly desire your beauty.  Because He is your Lord, worship Him.
12     And the daughter of Tyre will come with a gift.  The rich among the people will seek your favor.
13     The royal daughter is all glorious within the palace, her clothing is woven with gold.

14     She shall be brought to the King in robes of many colors. The virgins, her companions who follow her, shall be brought to You.
15     With gladness and rejoicing they shall be brought, they shall enter the King’s palace.
16     Instead of Your fathers shall be Your sons, whom You shall make princes in all the earth.
17     I will make Your name to be remembered in all generations. Therefore the people shall praise You forever and ever.

In Hebrews Chapter 1, God gives His Word to the Jewish people regarding the Messiah

God’s Final Word in His Son
1   God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world...

5   “You are My Son, today I have begotten You”...
           And again,
          “I will be a Father to Him and He shall be a Son to Me”...
6    And when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says,
           “And let all the angels of God worship Him.”
7   And of the angels He says,
“Who makes His angels winds,
And His ministers a flame of fire.”
8   But of the Son He says,
“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
9  And the righteous scepter is the scepter of His kingdom.
“You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness.
Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You
With the oil of gladness above Your companions.”
10   And, “You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth,
And the heavens are the works of Your hands;
11   They will perish, but You remain,
And they all will become old like a garment,
12   And like a mantle You will roll them up;
Like a garment they will also be changed.
But You are the same, and Your years will not come to an end...
      13    Sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet”...
      14    Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?   Hebrews 1:1 - 14
