PSALM 21

The Battle is Not OURS...
The battle belongs to the Lord

A Psalm of David
1The king shall joy in thy strength, O Jehovah—
and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!  2Thou hast given him his heart’s desire, and hast not withheld the request of his lips. Selah

3For thou meetest him with the blessings of goodness:
Thou settest a crown of fine gold on his head. 4He asked life of thee, thou gave  it to him, even length of days for ever and ever.

5His glory is great in thy salvation:
Honor and majesty dost thou lay upon him. 6For thou makest him most blessed for ever: Thou makest him glad with joy in thy presence.

7For the king trusts  in Jehovah—
and through the lovingkindness of the Most High he shall not be moved. 8Thy hand will find out all my enemies, Thy right hand will find out those that hate thee.

9Thou wilt make them as a fiery furnace in the time of thine anger:
Jehovah will swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them. 10Their fruit wilt thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men.  11For they intended evil against thee, they conceived a device which they are not able to perform. 12For thou wilt make them turn their back, Thou wilt make ready with thy bowstrings against their face.

13Be thou exalted, O Jehovah, in thy strength:
So will we sing and praise thy power.   [American Standard Version]

What was for King David, the Lord has promised He will perform for us also—those who believe and trust in his Name.
  • God wants us to know that the Christian life is a battle… we fight on our knees.
  • We fight these wars not with an attitude that glories in our own strength, but with an attitude of humble dependency on God for the strength only he can provide. Otherwise we will never win our battles. [see Hebrews 13:5,  Matthew 28:20, Psalm 46:1]
  • The battle is not physical, but spiritual.  We must trust God and  pray for help and he fights alongside us to  help us win it .He gives us the battle strategy and we follow it to victory.
God’s battle plan might look foolish to the unsaved or unsanctified mind :  1 Corinthians  1:18,For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” Also, 1 Corinthians 1 : 25 – “Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”
The battle is the Lord’s (1 Samuel 14:47). Therefore he decides how we fight it. We will never lose a battle if God is in it.  “All these kings and their land Joshua took at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel (Joshua 10:42). “The LORD your God, who goes before you, He will fight for you, according to all He did for you in Egypt before your eyes…No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.  I will not leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 1:30 and Joshua 1:5)
